Sickles Personal Hand Autographed check is another one of the many interesting civil war relics that you can buy from the Gettysburg Museum of History. This check was personally autographed by General Daniel E. Sickles, who was also a Gettysburg Medal of Honor recipient.
General Sickles was a great American who wore many hats including that of a politician and soldier as well as diplomat. He was also involved in many public scandals of which the most notable one was that of killing the lover of his wife, Philip Barton Key II, who was the son of Francis Scot Key. By pleading temporary insanity, General Sickles managed to get himself acquitted of the charges. During the Civil War, he became a very prominent political general and he was instrumental in recruiting the New York regiments called the Excelsior Brigade in the Army of the Potomac. |
